Ultraman- Theme Song
From creator Eiji Tsuburaya, the sci-fi superhero
series "Ultraman" captured the imaginations of kids and adults alike. This
series was a follow up to his successful, but seldom seen in the states,
black and white show Ultra Q. With special effects that may be hokey by
today's standards, the 1966 series introduced the world to the Ultraman
saga. The story began with a space officer, Ultraman, accidentally colliding
with Hayata, a member of the famed Science Patrol. The alien-being joined
bodies with the fatally wounded Hayata. The resurrected Hayata could then
summon the strength, size, and powers of the monster-fighting space
superhero Ultraman by using the hand-held Beta Capsule device. The Science
Patrol, of which he was a member, were the Earth's elite protectors and
scientific resource against the seemingly unending supply of giant monsters
and aliens threatening Japan. Inevitably, Hyata would use the transformation
device to help them battle their latest foe. Ultraman was 200 feet tall,
could fly, and used special weapons like a Specium-ray fired from crossed
arms. Ultraman was originally from the Nebula M78 and the difference in
atmospheres meant that he had to heed the blinking light on his chest
indicating his three minutes of power was nearing exhausted. The original
series lasted for 39 episodes but was followed by other series including
Ultra 7, Ultraman Jack, Ultraman: Towards the Future, Ultraman 80, Ultraman
Tiga and a myriad of other Ultra-series characters too numerous to mention
here. The original 1966 really started it all, spawning a cult phenomenon
and creating a huge toy and accessory industry that continues to this day. |
