Jean Smart to 'Govern' in 'Hawaii Five-O' 02/09/10 From a First Lady to a Governor. Jean Smart, who earned two Emmy nominations for her role as first lady Martha Logan on Fox's "24" has joined CBS' "Hawaii Five-O" remake, playing Hawaii Governor Pat Jameson. The new "Hawaii" centers on an elite branch of the Hawaii State Police headed by Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) and answerable only to the governor (Smart) who is described as "a local Hawaiian with a Washingtonian's backbone" and a completely honest politician. On the original, Gov. Paul Jameson was played by Richard Denning.
Neil Patrick Harris to Star in Smurfs Movie 03/06/10 Neil Patrick Harris is set to lead The Smurfs into Hollywood -- he's confirmed that he's been cast in a big screen adaptation of the popular 1980s cartoon. The "How I Met Your Mother" star will tackle the lead role in the movie, which will be a mixture of live action and animation, according to Deadline Hollywood. "Scooby-Doo" filmmaker Raja Gosnell has signed on to direct "Smurfs: The Movie" and filming is slated to begin in April, when Harris takes a hiatus from his role in the hit TV show. "I'll do my smurfiest to represent well," the 36-year-old actor wrote on twitter. "Smurfs are rad."
NBC's 'Rockford Files' Remake 03/02/10 NBC has found a new voice for Jim Rockford's answering machine, signing Dermot Mulroney to fill the iconic (gum)shoes of James Garner. The network had been searching for the right actor for weeks before finally closing a deal with Mulroney late Friday. NBC green lit a "Rockford" remake weeks ago and has long considered the project one of its biggest contenders for fall 2010. During its original 1970s run, "Rockford" stood out from the glut of detective and cop shows. Mulroney has starred in a number of romantic comedies during his career, from "My Best Friend's Wedding" to "Must Love Dogs, "The Wedding Date" and "Griffin & Phoenix."
Missing Actor's Body Found in Vancouver Park 02/26/10 Actor Andrew Koenig, who had been missing since February 14, committed suicide, his father told reporters after his son's body was found Thursday in a park in Vancouver, British Columbia. "My son took his own life," Walter Koenig said at a news conference in the park. The body of the former "Growing Pains" star was found by several friends who conducted their own search of Stanley Park, where Andrew Koenig liked to walk, his father said. Koenig, 41, was reported missing by his parents after he did not board a flight to Los Angeles from Vancouver last week. Walter Koenig -- himself an actor, known for his role as Pavel Chekov in the "Star Trek" series -- flew to Vancouver with his wife, Judy, on Tuesday to help with the search. Andrew Koenig appeared in 25 episodes of "Growing Pains" from 1985 to 1989, playing Richard "Boner" Stabone. He also appeared in episodes of several other television shows.
