The two wrote the show's book, music and lyrics, along with Robert Lopez, one of the creators of the Tony-winning "Avenue Q." The musical will be directed by Parker and Jason Moore, who directed "Avenue Q." The Emmy-winning "South Park" premiered in 1997 on Comedy Central.
‘Designing Women’ Actress Carter Dies at 70 04/11/10 "Designing Women" actress Dixie Carter, who used her charm and stately beauty in a host of roles on Broadway and television, has died. She was 70. Publicist Steve Rohr, who represents Carter and her husband, actor Hal Holbrook, says Carter died Saturday morning. A native of Tennessee, Carter was most famous for playing quick-witted Southerner Julia Sugarbaker for seven years on "Designing Women," the CBS sitcom that ran from 1986 to 1993. She was nominated for an Emmy in 2007 for her seven-episode guest stint on the ABC hit "Desperate Housewives." Carter's other credits include roles on the series "Family Law" and "Different Strokes." Carter is survived by her husband, actor Hal Holbrook, and two daughters.
‘Star Wars’, the Animated Sitcom? 04/06/10 May the force be witty. Lucasfilm Animation said Monday that "Star Wars" is coming to TV as an animated comedy series. The sitcom is still in development and doesn't have a title yet. Lucasfilm says it will explore the comic aspects of that "galaxy far, far away" as it playfully and irreverently confronts the saga's characters and mythology. Part of the creative team is Seth Green, who helped hatch the popular "Robot Chicken." He promises the new show will answer the question, "What do these Star Wars characters do when they're not overthrowing Empires?" No network or start date was announced for the series.
Actor John Forsythe Dies at Age 92 04/02/10 Actor John Forsythe, who enjoyed a long career on stage, film and on television shows such as "Dynasty," has died after a battle with cancer, his family said in a statement Friday. Forsythe passed away on April 1 in Santa Ynez, California, northwest of Los Angeles, near Santa Barbara, after having suffered a bout of pneumonia. The actor's career spanned more than five decades as he started work in New York on Broadway in plays such as the Pulitzer Prize winning "Teahouse of the August Moon" and on live television shows like "Studio One." Forsythe moved to Los Angeles and began working in TV where his association with Hollywood producer Aaron Spelling led to his role as Blake Carrington in "Dynasty," for which he won two Golden Globe best actor awards. He was also the voice of "Charlie" in the original 1970s TV series "Charlie's Angels" and in two feature films, "Charlie's Angels" and "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle." Forsythe is survived by his wife, Nicole, son, two daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sheen Leaving ‘Two and a Half Men’? 04/01/10 After seven seasons, CBS’s hit sitcom “Two and a Half Men” will be down one man after the April 9 taping. Although sources say the network hoped the star would sign a new contract for an eighth season, Sheen recently turned down the offer; his contract is fulfilled after he tapes this season’s 22nd episode. Sheen rep Stan Rosenfield would only say: “Charlie’s deal is only through this current season.” Sheen, who faces domestic violence charges stemming from a Christmas Day fight with wife Brooke Mueller, entered rehab on Feb. 24 as “a preventative measure” and has been returning to rehab after work each night. A CBS spokesperson says the network doesn’t comment on contract issues.
